4 Questions with the Founder

When did it become apparent to do business in fashion?

I think I was always interested in fashion, design and contemporary culture. As a kid and teen growing up I was always keen on finding new trends and certain hype cultures, but as I became older my interest in these particular fields started to grow and I started to wonder if I could create something that embodies my imagination and creativity.

Why did u start COLD STEEL?

I am just a kid with a dream. Besides, I was eager to develop a new concept that had more depth and resonated better with people, their lifestyle, interests and even our surroundings. I wanted to create something more wearable while paying homage to a high-fashion philosophy. I see clothes as a communication tool through which we can relate to each other and feel more connected besides our differences in character. From my standpoint of view I believe a brands purpose is essentially to unite people. Hence, I was inspired to create this transferable energy that could communicate more deeply with other garment enthusiasts, enrich their mood and give them a sense of belonging. More so, I think clothes have a much deeper existential meaning to us than we might realise.

Can u break down COLD STEEL as a concept?

I see COLD STEEL as an artistic endeavour that sparks a new conversation around the possibilities of modern menswear. Look around and you will notice that design is everywhere. CS is a design language that interacts with people and stirring a certain emotion by doing so. See it as a pathway that leads to a greater atmosphere for a specific group of individuals. It's a cohesive bundle of attributes and energy that can be transformed into an object. Hence, COLD STEEL can be simplified as a feeling or emotion that creates a new entity in an  so-called social construct. The social architecture already existed. It just has a different narrative, in my case representing youth culture. Once you get it, the designs will resonate much better and perceived value is increased. Virgil Abloh described a similar concept called tourist vs. purist that elaborates on this subject.

Where do u see COLD STEEL in the future?

I hope to see COLD STEEL grow to its full potential, primarily cause it would be an amazing journey and experience for us and our customers. I think we're on the verge of a revolution in fashion where it becomes more and more tangible for the individual. I hope COLD STEEL can carry on greater impact, create greater experience and divert into a more holistic label with a woman's collections and other objects.
